Abstract

This study investigates how dynamic capabilities sustain the continuity of law firms in an emerging economy. Using an interpretivist, inductive multiple-case design in Ghana, the authors conducted 35 semi-structured interviews with partners and managers, supported by documents and observations, and applied thematic analysis. They identify ten success factors, with four core dynamic capabilities—client relationship management, specialization, strategic planning, and a rational/discipline-oriented culture—working in combination to secure long-term viability. Theoretically, the paper extends dynamic capabilities theory by framing continuity (beyond innovation and short-term performance) as a key outcome in professional partnerships. Practically, it underscores effective financial management and strategic market positioning, and proposes an integrative capability–governance model for future quantitative testing.
